Happy 4th of July!

Happy Thursday to you and if you live in the United States or are a US Citizen, Happy 4th of July! Today is a holiday here in the US of A!  Celebrating our independence and the founding of our country.  Lots of red, white and blue and fireworks and picnics and water sports.  It's a great summer holiday that's for sure.  Hubby and I will be heading out to Lake Granbury this evening to sit back and enjoy the fabulous fireworks show.  If I get around to it, I'll pack us a picnic too.  We'll be getting home late as LOTS of people go out to the lake to swim, boat, picnic and of course watch that fireworks show and the traffic home is a nightmare but so worth it!  Granbury also has a fun, patriotic 4th of July parade and craft show on their town square.  If it's not too hot I might convince hubby to head over there early. We'll see.

Anyway...on with today's card creation.  It is, of course, a 4th of July card.  And I'm once again sneaking a card creation on to my blog a day earlier than the actual challenge date.  Why?  Well, this card is for the new Digi Haven challenge that goes live tomorrow (Friday) and the theme is "Red, White & Blue".  With those colors and this time of year I had to make a 4th of July card but just couldn't see it waiting until the day AFTER the 4th for it to be seen.  So here it is!  This gives you, my crafty friends and followers a chance to make your own red, white & blue card today if you get to do any crafting AND have it ready to link up to Digi Haven in the morning as soon as the challenge goes live.  This time around there is no sponsor.  Not sure why but that means there is no prize for this 2 week challenge but you can earn recognition in the form of a badge from Digi Haven for your own blog.

For my card, I chose this adorable flag bearing darling from Dearie Dolls. She's a freebie so if you love her like I do, you can go search for her on the Dearie Dolls blog--search for "Girl with Flag." There are lots of adorable images by Mary Ellen,  the Dearie Dolls owner & artist and she is so generous in posting some of her images for us for free!  The fireworks rockets on the right side are also digital images and they are by Stacy Molter of Fancy Shanty and her images are also free for you to download. All of the images were colored with my Copic Markers.

Copic Coloring List:
  • Skin E000+E01+E11+20

  • Hair Y21+Y32+E31

  • Flag Stripes R27

  • Skirt, Bow & Shoes R27+R29

  • Shirt B21+B24+B28

  • Flag Pole C2+C4

  • Shadow C0+C2

  • White stripes & Stars on Skirt, Hair Bow-Signo Pigment Pen, White

I used blue, red and white cardstock and a piece of printed paper from Authentique's 6x6 Journey Collection.  The white mats are distressed with a Tim Holtz paper shredder distress tool.  The little banners are hand cut from the package labeling sheet of Authentique's 12x12 Pride Collection. The patterns of the papers in the 12x12 size would have been too big but the smaller prints in the photos on the package labeling were perfect!  The stars on the flag were paper pieced from the same size prints because the stars on the digi image were so tiny!!  I added a red & white Baker's twine to the banners and some small rhinestones.  The ribbon and bow is red satin and the sentiment is from the Authentique 12x12 Pride Collection sticker sheet.

And there you go.  My 4th of July card for the Digi Haven challenge.  Remember, if you join in on the challenge that you must use a digi image or digi sentiment.  No stamped image allowed, after all it is DIGI Haven.

Hope you have a safe and happy holiday, if you celebrate and if not, have a wonderful day just the same!
