"It's Only Paper" Card Challenge

Hello Monday!  It's Thanksgiving week here in the USA and we celebrate on Thursday which then officially kicks off the Christmas holiday season.  I'll be putting my tree up soon (hopefully the day after Thanksgiving--no Black Friday shopping for me!)  If you haven't made any Christmas cards, it's time to really start crafting them!  I have a super simple one for you today and I'm thinking I will use this design to make quite a few.  It's totally flat so it would be easy to mail in an envelope!

We have a new card challenge starting this week over on Cards  in Envy.  It has absolutely nothing to do with Christmas or Christmas cards but I think it's a great challenge to get you spurred on to make those cards.  You could even cut out the elements and have your children or grand-children help you assemble.  The theme of the card challenge is "It's Only Paper."  That means your card must be made out of paper only.  Yes, cards are made of paper but for this challenge you can't use any ribbons, bows, flowers or other embellishments unless you make it from paper.  Sound hard?  Not really.  For the card above it literally took longer to print the Santa & boy image than it did to made it.  I'm even going to share with you where I got that fabulous image!  I'll tell you more later.

Here's my supply list:

  • White Cardstock, cut and folded into a 5" x 5" card base

  • Cranberry Cardstock, to mat behind the image

  • Simple Stories 12x12 Patterned Paper from the Claus & Co. collection, "Believe" #4804

  • Circle dies

  • Santa & Boy digital image by Betsy Skagen, Paper Calliope.com, "Be Merry" set

  • Art Glitter Designer Glue

  • 12" Trimmer

Paper Calliope is a somewhat new digital paper/embellishment store and Betsy asked me to take a look and create a project now and then using her papers. We are fellow educators for Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts.  Of course I said yes, and thought the set, "Be Merry", that I downloaded was perfect for my "It's Only Paper" card for Cards in Envy.  She graciously gave me a free download but really her sets are so inexpensive and once you pay for it with Paypal, you can download it right away.  I can see me using more of her images and papers for future card projects.  She will be adding lots more paper pattern designs to her shop.  Do me and Betsy a favor and check it out! Just click on the link >HERE<.  Thanks!

And now to encourage you to make those Christmas cards and make a card for our card challenge over on the Cards in Envy blog.  Remember this time your card must be made entirely out of paper including the embellishments, flat enough to fit in an envy for mailing and it can be any size or shape.  I hope you'll join us.

Happy Crafting!

Sandy
