Cheers to You - Toilet Paper Tube Gift Card Holder

This is another re-post of a project that was originally posted in January 2013 on The Stamping Shack blog along with the video tutorial on how to create a gift card holder from an empty toilet paper tube.

Yes, you can turn an empty toilet paper tube into an adorable birthday gift card holder with a cute image from The Stamping Shack, some printed papers, lovely ribbon and a fun button.

I'm posting the measurements in inches for the papers that I cut for this project.  Now, so far, all my toilet paper tubes have been the same size, but just in case yours are a bit wider or longer, be sure to measure before cutting your own papers.

For this project, you will need:
  • 1 empty and flattened toilet paper tube
  • 2 pieces of patterned paper 4.25" x 2.5" for the front and back
  • 1 piece of patterned paper .75" x 3.5"
  • 1 piece of solid cardstock 2.5" x 3.75"
  • 1 piece of patterned paper 2.5" x 3.75" to attach to the cardstock
  • 1 piece of patterned paper 2.25" x 3.5"
  • Paint  to coordinate with the papers or you could use white or black
  • Scrap of white cardstock for the sentiment tag
  • Ribbon, Button, thread, small safety pin
  • Digital Image from The Stamping Shack - "Gifts Galore"
  • Coloring medium of choice, I use Copic Markers
  • Glue, Glue Pen  and Tape Runner
I did show on the video how I colored the digi image "Gifts Galore"  from The Stamping Shack but I did not list the Copic colors, so for those who like to know what colors I used, here's the coloring list.

Copic Coloring List:
  • Skin E50 E51 E11
  • Cheeks R20
  • Hair Y21 Y23 Y32
  • Shirt B000 B02
  • Skirt, Headband, Shoes R22 R24 R27
  • Cat W2 W5 W7
  • Gifts & Bows Y26 R27 R22 B2 B000

I love creating gift card holders from recycled materials and an empty toilet paper tube is the perfect size! You can also save your paper towel tubes and cut them down to make card holders as well.  I got this idea and technique from Anne's Paper Creations, she's a fabulous paper designer of unique mini albums and journals.

I encourage you to go ahead and make several gift card holders so you'll have them on hand when you need them.  Don't forget to make some for wedding gifts too and of course, Christmas!

Happy Crafting!
