Red Poppies for Memorial Day

This is a photo I took of red poppies about 4 years ago in a field at a wildflower farm in the Hill Country of Texas.  I've always loved poppies, especially the red and that they make me reflect and remember those who have given their life for our freedoms.  Today, I share this photo again in memory of all those who served and made the ultimate sacrifice by giving their life.

In Flanders Fields
by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Canadian Army

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead.
Short days ago we lived,
Felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
in Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe;
To you from falling hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders field.

Peace and comfort to those who have lost loved ones while serving our great country. May their memory live on.
